Issue |
We are trying to get a Toshiba laptop to run Qnx4.25. It booted fine from the install floppy and went through the install without any problems. When we tried to boot off the hard drive, it either hangs after 2 dots, or it reboots over and over.
It is a Toshiba 1800 series laptop.
Why does it not boot properly? |
Solution |
This sounds like an issue with drive geometry. The geometry that it is formatted with matches what is in the boot image, but not what the BIOS thinks it is to do the initial boot.
QNX 4.24, and early 4.25, EIDE drivers had this issue.
The way to check this is enter the BIOS on the system startup and see what the drive is reported as (also make sure that the drive is using LBA mode). Then boot into QNX using a boot floppy and run fdisk on the drive. See what fdisk reports the drive parameters as and see if they match with what the BIOS reports.
Another thing to try is wiping the entire drive - make sure the MBR (master boot record) is zero'd - and to a complete clean install from a cold boot.
