Issue |
We are installing QNX4.24 onto a 10GB EIDE hard drive. The installation is successfull, but when we reboot, fdisk reports the wrong size for the hard-disk, reporting only 8 gigs. Is this the largest possible file system size?

Solution |
QNX4.24 will not automatically detect drives with geometries greater than 8GB. There was an imposed 8GB limit with pre-4.25A versions of Fsys due to the non-standard reporting of geometries above this limit. Upgrading to 4.25D is the solution.
NOTE: There are two options for obtaining the QNX4.25D patch. If you have an existing QUICS account, you may download the /updates/qnx42/Released/qnx425.pdiskset.tar.F archive and create a new diskset...make sure to read the qnx425.pdiskset.doc notes. Go to QDN( http://www.qnx.com/support/quics/index.html ). There are instructions as to which archives to use to update a system.
If you DO NOT have an existing QUICS account, you must use the CD Installer from the QNX All Products CD dated December 1999, or later, to access the latest updates and patches. Please see http://qdn.qnx.com/download/updates/archive_index.html for more details.
Supplemental: If a hard drive larger than 8 gigs is being used with the 8 gig limit, and the drive is being upgraded with 4.25D, QNX will have to be re-installed. This is due to the fact that the new Fsys.eide driver will still use the translations in the current primary partition.
NOTE: It is not possible to modify the partition table with fdisk. If re-installing, backup your data from the disk, then zero the partition table before re-installing. |
