Workstation boot speed over the network |

Issue |
We have a problem with QNX workstations that they take almost a minute to boot over the network. The message "Starting QNX..." appears and after that, we still have to wait almost 30 seconds. This is not a licensing problem since we there are only 5 nodes on the network and we have 10 licenses.
Is there a way to speed up the boot process? |
Solution |
There are a number of things you can do to speed up booting over the network.
First, and most important is to turn on caching for the address of your network card and its Boot ROM.
Also if you have a lot of computers on your network that are all booting at the same time (everyone comes in at 9am and turns on their computers) that will create too much traffic to handle with out some people being forced to wait. If this is the case you should try to adjust when people boot their machines. Either get them to come in earlier, or have the sys admin turn them on in the morning before people get there.
Check the speed of the network, is it a 10Mbit network? or 100Mbit?
Also if you are using Arcnet it is much slower than Ethernet. |
