How can we get documentation for programming on the QNX4 system using Watcom C/C++ 10.6? If help is available on the system (like man pages in UNIX), how can we use it?

Solution |
Documentation for QNX4 has been made available on the QNX website at:
http://support.qnx.com/support/docs/qnx4/index.html
Documentation for QNX Neutrino and the Photon microGUI windowing system can also be found online. The Watcom documents are currently not available online.
There are 2 forms of online documentation available: the 'use' command, and HTML help files.
The 'use' command is like 'man' pages in UNIX except it is shorter and is compiled into the executable. The syntax is 'use wcc' to find the use message (help message) for wcc. This is good if you know how to do something, but forgot the specific arguments to use, or just want a quick overview.
The second and more in depth method is the HTML help files. HTML Helpviewer pages ship with all of our products.
They are meant to be read with the Photon microGUI windowing system Helpviewer. This is essentially a specialized HTML viewer with icons and links. All the QNX4 products (except QNX Windows) have helpfiles. When installing a product, the help files are installed into the common help area, and are then visible when helpviewer is started.
If Photon is not present, there are 2 alternatives: use the Lynx HTML text browser, or tmhv - text mode help viewer. The Lynx HTML text browser (lynx2-7-qnx.tgz) is available in the qnx4/tcpip/http directory in the Contributed Software section of our website. The text mode help viewer is available in the qnx4/os/utils/doc_processing directory, and the file is called 'tmhv.tgz'. |
